Homeschool
Orchestra for the 2006-2007 School Year
Susan Kroeker, homeschooling mother of 5 and professional musician is seeking interested musicians to play in a homeschool orchestra in its second season in State College. Participation will be for homeschool musicians in grades 6-12 from anywhere in central Pennsylvania, and an audition will be required. Younger musicians may be accepted as well if it is determined that they are proficient enough on their instruments at the auditions. No prior ensemble experience is required and we will begin slowly, advancing with the students’ abilities.
Instruments needed: violins, violas, cellos, basses, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, French horns, trumpets, trombones, euphonium, and piano. Percussion may be needed on occasion for some pieces.
Possible Repertoire: Classical arrangements, holiday music, hymns, marches. We will begin each session with scales and warm-up exercises. Each student will need to bring a folding stand.
Rehearsal location: Robert M. Sides Music Store, 1801 N. Atherton St., State College
Time Commitment: There will be four 7-week sessions. All students must commit to either the first 2 sessions, the last 2 sessions, or all 4 sessions as we will be preparing for 2 concerts (one in December and one in April) and we will need to have consistent personnel in order to prepare. We will meet on Mondays from 1:30-3 pm at Sides Music Store in their rehearsal and/or concert rooms. The dates of the sessions are as follows:
Fee: $50 per session , deduct $5 per session for each additional child in the same family
Payable: by the second rehearsal of each session. session. Please make checks out to Susan Kroeker.
Audition requirements: 2 major scales of student’s choice, solo piece or etude 2-3 minutes long, and sightreading. Instruments must be in good working condition. (814-234-3716)

I have been
teaching private lessons for over five years with students of varying skill
levels from beginner to intermediate. I am looking to take on more
students for both piano and flute. I would prefer to teach children and
teens between Kindergarten and 12th grade for piano and 3rd grade to 12th grade
for flute, either beginners or intermediate students. No prior knowledge
of music (notes, rhythm, etc.) is required :). The curriculum that I
prefer to use for piano is the Alfred’s Basic Piano Library All-in-One Course,
and the Rubank Method for flute. However, if your student is not a
beginner and would like to continue with his/her original curriculum, I am
willing to work through that as well. I will teach from my home, which is
located near the Nittany Mall. My rate is $9 per ½ hour for piano and $10
per ½ hour for flute. If you are interested, or if you have any questions,
please contact me (Sarah Crouse) at (814) 237-1249 or email to
sbc5000@psu.edu. Thank you!
