Academic Support

Harmonic Progressions

Harmonic Progressions provides a unique series of academic tutoring, conflict resolution, and socialization programs for children, teens and adults. Private hourly classes facilitate intensive one-on-one therapies and cognitive training. Small group programs provide guided social and interpersonal experiences while exploring academic subjects, relationships with animals, and the arts.

Harmonic Progressions, established in 1996, is a professional development provider and treatment facility offering unique programs in music, animal assisted therapies, and intensive cognitive training based on scientifically based research approaches. Harmonic Progressions was born out of care, frustration, a desire for permanent changes and a philosophy based on "can do," not "can't do." The primary function of Harmonic Progressions is to provide unique behavioral, cognitive, and educational tutoring programs for four main groups of clients:

1) Students under the K-12 Special Education umbrella who are in need of private and/or group learning enrichment (primarily in math and reading)

2) Students (post-secondary) and adults in need of cognitive training primarily to help resolve learning issues as related to ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorders), and other neurological disorders related to brain damage/dysfunction

3) Clients who fall under the dual-diagnosis umbrella of Mental Health/Mental Retardation (MH/MR)

4) Individuals needing professional intervention for conflict resolution, and who need to learn socially acceptable behaviors

We found and developed individualized programs for all ages that help conquer learning disabilities and difficulties, including the various dyslexias and attention deficit disorders. Over a very short period of time, we discovered that we could make a difference in the lives of those with learning difficulties and disabilities, and as well offer unique learning experiences and opportunities to individuals who fall under the dual diagnosis MH/MR umbrella.

The years of collective experience that we have with these programs enables each individual to experience caring and respect through highly structured, success oriented, and multidisciplinary methods of training.

Persons receiving help through Harmonic Progressions become self monitoring, self checking, independent learners, and can make years of academic gain in weeks. Our individualized treatment plans hold the keys to academic success, personal fulfillment, and self-esteem for persons with mild to severe learning challenges. We want to share them with people, and we want to train and/or consult with those who wish to succeed at implementing these programs for persons of all ages.

Christian Vo-Tech

Christian Vo-Tech School in Harrisburg

Parent of Home-School Student(s)

This letter is being sent to announce to you the beginning of a new
vision in Christian Education that is happening right here in the
Harrisburg area—the creation of a Christian Vocational-Technical School.
Our area is already truly blessed with many wonderful Christian schools,
elementary through high school, as well as a wonderful network of
home-schooling--this new vision of education is not a competition to any
other form of Christian education, but instead it will be a complement to
area Christian schools and to your home-schooling. We are unaware of any
schools in our nation, let alone in Harrisburg, that offer high school
students a Christian choice for Vocational-Technical Career Education.
The Lord has instilled a vision for this ministry, has provided a
facility and leaders, and right now this school is in the planning stages
with an anticipated opening date of Fall, 2007!

What is Career and Technical Vocational Education? It is a school
facility that offers training programs for various career areas, for
trades such as the following:

Automotive Technology
Electrical Construction (Residential & Commercial Wiring)
Auto Collision Repair Technology
Electrical Engineering
Baking
Graphic Arts
Building Construction
Health Occupations (CNA Certification)
Business Technology Applications
HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning)
Cabinetmaking
Horticulture (Floral Design & Landscaping)
CADD (Drafting)
Marketing & Sales
Carpentry
Masonry
Child Care
Plumbing
Commercial Art
Precision Machining
Computer Information Systems
Protective Services (Fire Protection & Criminal Justice)
Cosmetology
Small Engine Repair
Culinary Arts
Warehousing
Diesel Technology
Welding

This school will be the pioneer school for Christian-based career and
technical education, producing a student who will be equipped and eager
to pursue trades in the career pathways that are available in Dauphin
County and close-by vicinities. The goal is to provide educational
support and the best career training possible, offering industry
certifications upon program completion to all students, and to also
provide an atmosphere to cultivate and develop a workforce that will be
exposed to Christian ethical and moral training, with a sense and desire
aimed toward genuine customer service, dedicated community service, and
admirable citizenship. This school will seek professional Christian
staff and administration that will be admonished and held accountable to
present and demonstrate these qualitie s, as well as possess (or pursue)
educational qualifications comparable to public school career and
technical educators.

As you know, today’s teenager faces many challenges and really needs to
hear the message of hope concerning Jesus‘ love for them as an individual
and not be alienated by the world’s politically correct ban on
Christianity. Seventy-five percent of the labor force will be made up of
skilled labor, technical labor, the labor force that a career and
technical school will develop. Our foremost vision and goal—is not to
just create another vocational high school—but to create a
Christ-centered vocational school that will minister spiritually to these
students as well as develop the skills and knowledge for the students to
become proficient in the trade. And then, through our students, staff
and programs, the school will reach out and bless the surrounding
community spreading the message and love of Jesus Christ through ministry
outreach services that our programs can provide.

Why are we notifying you and what are we anticipating? We are looking
for people who may be interested in instructing a career program, we are
looking for student interest and student need, we are looking for other
individuals who may be interested in assisting in the operation of this
school, and we are looking for business leaders who may be interested in
sponsoring and/or advising the development of our programs.

If you are interested in becoming a technical educator or support staff
person for this school, these are the qualifications we are seeking: Our
teachers and staff must be born again believers exemplifying the
Christian lifestyle. To become an instructor of a program, the
individual will need to have three years experience in the specific trade
area that they desire to instruct. Our instructors will receive teaching
induction and teacher training on the job. This is the same vocational
teacher recruitment requirement and educational policy and pathway that
is practiced in the public school system for vocational teachers—aside,
of course, from the Christian requirement.

The Christian Vocational School will work with students in various
educational scenarios:

· Students already attending a Christian High School would take
the required academics (English, Math, Science, Phys. Ed., and Social
Studies) at their Christian High School for a half-day and then attend
the other half-day at the Christian Vocational School, if their Christian
High School agrees to this partnership. (Half tuition to the Christian
School and half tuition to the Christian Vocational School)

· Home-schooled students would receive their academic training at
home and then attend a half-day at the Christian Vocational School.
(Half-day tuition to the Christian Vocational School)

· Public school students would attend for academics (arranging
their schedule for half-day academics) and then attend the Christian
Vocational School the other half-day. (Half-day tuition to the Christian
Vocational School)

· Students expelled from a public school would be considered under
a behavior contract agreement if interviewed and accepted. (Half-day
tuition to the Christian Vocational School)

The Christian Vocational School building is conveniently located in the
former Lower Paxton Junior High School Building (6003 Jonestown Road,
Harrisburg) that is currently owned and occupied by the New Love in
Christ Church. The building houses the “Follow Me” daycare, offering a
wonderful opportunity for an onsite Child Care Program. The former “Pot
of Love” Restaurant has recently closed and will become functional as a
Culinary Arts Program. There are multiple rooms currently empty and
available to house various career programs. Currently specific interest
has been expressed by individuals interested in developing a Woodworking
(Carpentry) Program and an Electrical Construction Program.

If you decide you are interested in finding out more about becoming an
instructor or support staff person, or if you are interested in obtaining
information for your child/children to apply as a half-day student, or if
you are interested in more information to determine financial or
advisement support as an interested business leader, or if you are just
interested in more information to determine possible financial or
volunteer support, we have scheduled informational meetings and tours of
the Vocational Christian School for the following dates and at the
following times:

· Sunday - January 21, 2007; 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
· Sunday - February 18, 2007; 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
· Thursday – February 22, 2007; 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
· Sunday – March 18, 2007; 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
· Thursday – March 22, 2007; 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
· Sunday – April 22, 2007; 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

At these meetings, we will also hold specific separate sessions for
interested teachers, students, staff support, and business leaders.

If you are part of a Home-Schooling group, and you would like to schedule
an individual meeting to discuss a partnership with your Home-Schooling
group and the Christian Vocational School to serve your students that
would benefit from a half-day of academics with you and a half-day of
vocational training with us, please telephone Pastor Ross Reider at
717-540-8439.

We are looking forward to seeing what else God will do — we are amazed at
what God has already done!

Sincerely in Christ,

Sandra L. Cook, Vocational Administrative Director
Pastor Ross Reider, Pastor of New Love in Christ Church
